Dear Legislator,
1. We
urgently request that you insist that the FAA exempt Westchester Airport
from any expansion. No expansion of the footprint, capacity, additional
flights, gates, hangars, parking or heavier planes. This airport should
not put our precious water supply in jeopardy. Additional traffic
can only increase the risk of additional accidents and spills.
2. Urgently,
we request that the Westchester Board of Legislators pass a written
policy reverting to pre-9/11 operations of the parking garage.
This would help prevent airport expansion through night flights.
3. Our County legislators should only permit new airport leases and
subleases that allow air traffic that is no bigger than air traffic of
the company they replace, thus insuring an effective policy to stop
airport flight expansion.
4. Westchester's air falls way below the national standards for clean
air emissions. Emissions from planes and toxic pollution from airports
should absolutely be included in all county efforts that address air
pollution. Our children and citizens need protection from
additional exposure to airplane toxins, which increases rates of asthma
and cancer.
